Ha'aretz's Eldar Wrong on Gaza Hothouses In the lead paragraph of his article yesterday entitled "Report says Katif's greenhouses broke," Ha'aretz's Akiva Eldar erroneously writes that the Gush Katif hothouses were "purchased by the Palestinian Economic Development (PED) Company." As was widely reported last August, the Gush Katif hothouses were purchased by American Jewish donors organized by James Wolfensohn, and were transferred to the control of the newly established PED. BBC and Ha'aretz Journalist Whitewash Palestinian Incitement Akiva Eldar, the Ha'aretz journalist who recently transformed Palestinian propagandist Hanan Ashrawi into the "Enemy of Incitement," weighs in again on Palestinian incitement. In a BBC interview March 15, he repeats the old canard that the offending Palestinian texts are outdated Jordanian and Egyptian books, and concludes that anyway, "the focus on incitement is very wrong and it's in a way irrelevant as long as we are fighting." Update/Correction: Akiva Eldar, Mearsheimer's Righteous Jewish Source for Misinformation In a Chicago Tribune Op-Ed, John Mearsheimer falsely claims that a Hebrew University poll found 21 percent of settlers favor the use of arms to resist settlement evacuation. The professor apparently relied on a flawed report by Ha'aretz's Akiva Eldar, and never read the poll itself. Akiva Eldar Clueless in Jerusalem Ha'aretz veteran writer Akiva Eldar is befuddled on Jerusalem, falsely claiming that West Bank Muslims and Christians cannot visit the holy sites and that only east Jerusalem women and children may enter the Temple Mount. AP Corrects: Blair Didn't Link Israel, Bombings In the aftermath of the London terror attacks, the media's scapegoat-Israel tendency has again reared its head. The Associated Press issued multiple stories reporting that British Prime Minister Tony Blair gave an interview on BBC Radio yesterday in which he linked the attacks against his country to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In fact, Blair never mentioned Israel or the Palestinians. Ha'aretz Gives Hanan Ashrawi a Makeover In a news feature item in the Thursday edition of Ha'aretz, Akiva Eldar discusses Palestinian spokeswoman Hanan Ashrawi, her organization MIFTAH, and incitement. Interestingly, his only mention of the word "propaganda" relates to "Israeli propaganda" originating from the Israeli Foreign Ministry, and the Ha'aretz writer has not a word to say about incitement originating from Ashrawi and MIFTAH themselves. Ha'aretz Fuels Anti-Israel Bias In a familiar syndrome, many otherwise impartial American journalists newly posted in Israel slip quickly in their reporting into unmistakably hostile views of the country. Why? One factor is their sources in the Israeli media.
