Reporting on the uproar over Yeshiva University's Cardozo Law School giving an award to President Carter, an article makes reference to the president of Yeshiva, Richard Joel, as "Dr. Joel." President Carter, on the other hand, gets a mere, "Mr. Carter." Richard Joel has a J.D. (from NYU), and some honorary doctorates, but the Times doesn't ordinarily refer to either lawyers or to those with honorary degrees with the "Dr." honorific.
