  Speaking of Elite Contempt Check out how NPR, Bloomberg News, and Mike Allen's Politico Playbook handle coverage of this weekend's upcoming 8/28 "Restoring Honor" Glenn Beck rally in Washington. Each piece is almost a parody of press hostility and derision toward Mr. Beck and his listeners and viewers. Compare the tone of the coverage of Mr. Beck with the tone of the mainstream press coverage of the imam of the ground zero mosque. The imam and his followers generally get the benefit of the doubt, while Mr. Beck and his followers get scrutinized and caricatured. Bloomberg Businessweek on Tea Party The new Bloomberg Businessweek cover story is "Why Business Doesn't Trust the Tea Party." It frames the Tea Party as "extreme and inflexible," as opposed to "business leaders who prize pragmatism and stability." It all depends on what adjectives one chooses; the Tea Party might also be characterized as "principled" as opposed to business leaders who are "unprincipled" and "stubbornly opposed to change." More: Tax Terminology It's interesting to see how the terminology used for tax laws is different depending on which taxpayers are at issue. The left manages to criticizes President Obama for approving "tax cuts for the rich" while at the same time insisting that the middle class not be socked with a "tax increase." If it's a "tax cut" for the "rich," isn't it also a tax cut for the middle class? And if it's a tax increase on the middle class, wouldn't it also be a tax increase on the "rich"? There was something of a similar debate back in the mid-1990s over a reduction in the planned growth rate of Medicare spending. Democrats called it a "cut," while Republicans insisted that it was an increase, because spending was still going up.
